Taking new beginners backpacking?

Is backpacking worth getting into? How do you guys find people to start backpacking with if you want to try it but don't know anything?

I have backpacked for years. I have only ever gone with the missus. It's not that hard to get into. Literally just grab any backpack you own and go /out/. Go on local trails. Start easy and work your way up. The experience and gear comes with time.

Why do you need friends to go backpacking? Just pick a trail and walk on it till 2 hours before night then set up your camp. You're not a scardy cat are you?
