When I first started getting into /out/ shit with my dad he instilled a fear of widowmakers in me. Kept telling me how this is the true danger when you're outside, and how many people they kill a year, etc.
Ever since then I have had a bit of a phobia about them, every time I'm in the woods I am constantly feeling a fear in the back of my mind, and when I finally leave the forest I feel some sense of relief I don't have to think about them anymore. It really has been weighing on my trips. People are afraid of bears and snakes, I'm afraid of the creaks above me head in the trees.
Is this actually something worth worrying about as much as I am, it seriously affects me outdoor experiences with how often I'm watching every tree branch I pass by. Are they truly that dangerous and what should I really be watching out for when it comes to them?
