I live in the rainforest on the Olympic peninsula. You guys should come see it before it stops being a rainforest. At the rate people are buying land and having it clear cut, I don't know if it'll last another 20-30 years.

I know they get a lot more rain in the South than the PNW. Mississippi gets roughly 60” a year, compared to about 36” in Portland and Seattle. It just rains way more often in the north west (something like 150 days a year, compared to 50 or 60 in the South).

Yes. Someone was wondering about the map posted in >>2419309. As you can see, both Portland and Seattle with a measly 3 feet of precipitation per year are classified as temperate rain forests while most of the South is not. So I don’t think the yearly rainfall is what matters.

The center of the peninsula is untouched. There are no roads through it. There are all of two pictures of service falls online because it's so difficult to get to. There's a real good chance you'll kill yourself trying to get to the center of the peninsula.

Because some cunt at the cellphone company decided to force everything into panorama regardless of the orientation the image was taken however the software that displays the image on the phone WILL, so when you view it on the phone it looks like how you took it but when you upload it to most places it ignores the meta orientation and puts it to panorama. It's annoying as fuck because people have complained about it for years and cell cartels don't give a shit.

My goal was to get near the peak in the center of that photo, and into the old-growth forest where the vegetation opens up a bit and you can see more. There's a ranger trail but I was afraid to follow it because meeting a ranger would have meant the end of my solo exploration. So I followed a river instead, which wound further to the south where the vegetation is thicker, and I eventually got so stuck in reeds and bamboo I had to turn back. Found some cool Mayan ruins though.

Unexcavated ruins don't resemble much after 500 years of jungle growth. You have to be standing there to pick out the shape of the pyramids. There were two big pyramids and half a dozen smaller mounds arranged around a big courtyard.

Here's an outing I did today in the ghetto jungle that is the cypress swamps.

Unfortunately cut short by the fact I did not tell my parents where I was going, so they flipped out, with my Mom driving over to the house crying and my Dad going in the woods to find me. Sorry Dad.

Aside from that, it was not bad. First time camping so I was uneasy, but after sitting in the hammock for hours listening to the woods and taking pictures, it is quite peaceful, if not uncomfortable.

Definitely has to do with frequency of rainfall and wet season being basically all year long.
Deserts can get a few feet of rain a year but will remain deserts if the rainy season stretches across a single month during the year while the rest of the time is dry.
Ireland is in a constant state of rainy/cloudy/sunny days. You'll need to take a raincoat with you for a trip i' the middle of summer because it could pour down whenever.

Seattle and Portland are in the rain shadows of the Olympic and Coast mountains, so they get surprisingly little rain relative to the rest of the region. That's why everyone lives in those valleys, as opposed to on the coast line.

Irish guy here, sadly its mostly our fault. Most of Irelands woods were erased to make way for cattle grazing before the British Navy started harvesting wood.

Even now Irish farmers seem to have a particular distain for what little natural woodland is left. Farmers around the Burren are campaigning to cut down temperate rainforest they say is "encroaching" on their land (same land is nothing but fucking stones)

I use photo editor by dev.macgyver which I paid like $4 for and I've been using for like 6 years, it's a miniature photoshop. But there are apps like "Send Reduced" or Imagepipe that are free and open source. to resize and remove the exif data.
Send Reduced is amazing because when you select a file to upload on 4chan it enables you to choose "get reduced image" and whatever you will upload then will be resized to 1000px and cleared of exif data. I think it may even compress the image if you want to.

1) Right click image "Edit" to open in mspaint
2) Click "resize" button
3) Change image percentage by ~50% to get it to manageable size
4) Save. The orientation and size will automatically be fixed

Pretty much every phone offers the possibility to modify a pic like Paint, it's what I do when I post mine
