Plastic buckets with lids that have seals are pretty good for ~5 years. If food is going in there you would want oxygen absorbers. If metal, anti-rust packets. If electronics, silicone absorbers. Etc etc.
Seal type on the bucket lids matters. EPDM is good, Buna N is not. Low durometer silicone is best.
If the stuff might be buried longer than ~5 years you would want more than 1 seal. Bag it...bag type depends on what you burying, then put the bagged item in the bucket.
The area where you are burying matters. If the soil moves a lot, the clay around the gulf for example, rigid containers are likely to be loaded in a way the lids will pop off. Heavy flexible bags are better.
