hi. i'm heading on a solo camp soon. my first time solo camping, and first time camping in general since i was a kid in scouts. i've picked an area i am familiar with but there's plenty i want to explore and hike around while i am there. i figure it'd be a good idea to bring a compass since i know my phone has no signal in the area (no google maps with realtime location), so i was wondering how to set the bearing of my tent in case i get lost? i remember the basics of using a compass and setting a bearing with a map, but i must be dumb because i'm drawing a blank on something.
say if i set off north and set the bearing on my compass to my camp, but then wandered around in a kind of semi-circle and end up south of my camp without having noticed i passed it, how would i use the bearing to find my tent again? the forest i'm going to is small, so any direction would eventually lead to a road or some random dude's house, so i'm not worried about dying innawoods, i jus want to make sure i can always get back my gear. thanks for any advice :3
