/out/ i have a silly question

How do i wear socks ?
Specifically for long, hot summer treks. something about all these wool tube socks and layered stuff with liners and whatnot makes me feel like im just gonna sweat more.
oh, and please dont gearfag the hell out of me just tell me what kind of materials. thanks.

Wear smartwool, not real wool.

I usually just wear regular cotton socks, but obviously if you're innawoods and might get wet that could be bad.

In the summer I wear the cheapest synthetic dress socks they sell in big box stores. I work outside, run everyday, and hike a lot. I never get blisters under normal circumstances.

As long as it's above freezing, I just wear those socks. If it gets cold I'll just layer them. That gives you the advantage of separating them for easy washing and quick drying.

If it's really cold or I'll be sitting still (hunting, birdwatching), I'll wear smartwool. Smartwool is great, but it's not for warm weather.

Another fun fact I forgot to mention:

Cheap dress socks are about the same weight as socks marketed as "ultralight", but they last indefinitely longer and are a small fraction of the cost.

Not sure if you're joking or not, but I've been wearing foot wraps every day for the past several months and I can confirm that for me it's much more comfortable than socks. I recommend to anyone giving it a shot for a week to see how they feel, but it feels a lot like not wearing socks at all except with a good amount of warmth. I've only been wearing them for fall/winter, so I can't confirm for summer. They are probably too warm for that.
