I make this thread to compare the budget alternatives that are durable and as light as possible, post your budget loadouts to compare and improve.

I will start with mine:

>Camping chair: "Chinkenox One" knock off chair from Aliexpress- 25 euros
>Rain Gear: Decathlon Arpenaz 500 Poncho + Pants - 35 euros
>Medkit: MediSpor 100 + windproof Clipper Jet lighter (medkit came with a whistle and other cool stuff) - 25 euros
>Cooking Gear: Lixada brand Alcohol stove + Titanium 550ml Cup + Titanium Spork - 60 euros
>Water Purification: LifeStraw with 500ml soft bottle and some Oasis tablets - 40 euros
>Headlamp/Lantern: PETZL Zipka + PETZL Noctilight + 2x PETZL Core Batteries - 70 euros
>Power Bank: Anker PowerCore II Slim 10000mah - 25 euros

All in all with some extras such as foldable 5L water bag and some other stuff like cloth pillow and gopro gear my pack weighs 9kg (20lbs) without water or food.

Every titanium cook pot, spoon, fork, spork, cup, etc is made in the same factory. From the EXACT same stampings. From the same smelter. EVERY brand. The only variation is the laser etched logo.
Aliexpress "knockoff" is 50% cheaper every time. You're paying for the same product from drop shippers.
I can go on and on and on but I don't need to, titanium cook gear alone exposes "buy once cry once" as outdated boomer advice and reddit marketing tactics.

While that may be true they aren't held to the same qc standards and numerous western businesses that do metallurgical work based in China need to have trusted people on the ground to keep the Chinese factory owners honest.
Without that oversight the Chinaman has zero reason to sell you anything close to what they say is in it, usually what happens is alloy composition isn't what they say it is or thickness of materials is far thinner than what's needed.
You truly know nothing about china or doing business there.

basics:
fleece gloves (basic liners, £2)
fleece leggings (Wedze or something)
fleece 100wt jumper
fleece beanie

running windshirts are good, decent breathability, drying speed and abrasion, ~150g (not particularly light but good for price /bushwacking)

Cheap light waterproof trousers work fine
Waterproof shell mittens (forclaz) are awesome
Light nylon running shorts are great

Forget the merino wool blends, in my experience they are blended poorly with nylon and end up stinky fast without the fast drying benefits, and even the thinnest weaves are too hot for summer

Cycling gear may be good to look at for synthetics, windbreakers/gilets and fishnet-like baselayers

Solognac (for hunters) and Simond (for climbers) are subsidiary brands with their own research departments that make very rugged gear. Simond £120 puffy jackets rival £300 belay jackets from Rab, Crux etc.

Trail runners are durable and comfy and very good price.

Solognac 50L pack is pretty well made, durable and simple features for the price, but I'd rather buy a second hand lighter pack

Tents and sleeping bags seem heavy, bulky quick-to-break-down batting and mediocre designs for not particularly competitive prices

For rainjackets, cooking, compasses, ultralight tents and packs and niche technical gear go for established brands on sale or second hand, MYOG or cottage companies

Uniqlo puffies sure but decathlon has unique designs, and they're good ones with high fill power. used to be steals but the prices went up over the coof as decathlon exploded in popularity.

The cheapest option as always is to raid a charity shop in a rich neighbourhood for basics and if you're lucky find high end gear which you can go on to abuse with abandon.

Thing is if average people buy something and it works great they have little reason to sell absolute crap or scam since on ali and amazon getting even 15% of bad reviews is a big blow due to fierce competition selling exact same shit. So far I got plenty of chink shit that is not only good enough but actually great for the price. Also stuff from Decathlon for example is also really good only problem is weight and size. Heck even their cheapest free standing tents can take heavy rain and wind just fine. I have 2 when I go out with friends and it's exceptional for the price.

Not true.
Titanium cups varies in thicknesses and price sometimes reflects this. Evernew titanium is much much thinner (=lighter) than generic aliexpress/amazog ti. Some titanium alloys are shittier than others and you hear odd reports of offgassing and weird corrosions with the real bottom of the barrel stuff. Titanium is an alloy and alloys vary depending on batch and quality control.

It's also well known in the cycling world that lower grade titanium bikes are made with uniform thickness, unbutted (therefore unoptimised, stiff and heavy) titanium pipes and mediocre welding done in an oxygen-contaminated environment which leads to welds failing and frames coming apart. Big big variations in titanium manufacturing quality there and price reflects it, even if titanium currently has a very high markup.

Here's an example. I'm normally a canister stove guy and swear by soto and msr. Trying out alcohol stoves on my short trips this summer & fall. Here's a complete and full featured ultralight kitchen for $60 that even allows both simmering and rapid boiling. The $60 includes the not pictured reflectrix cozies for the pot & mug and a gallon of fuel in the price tag so its more like $30 without those.

I'm doing St. Francis path from Rome to Assisi.

I have spent 88€ already, probably will need more like 75€ for all the gear. Anyone got experience sleeping in a liner? 24c at night here isn't unusual at all, so I am not keen to lug around my bulky sleeping bag that's rated for like 15c.

I'd buy some of this stuff from aliexpress etc., but I will be going in less than three weeks and don't want to miss out on some shit due to waiting times.

Those cheap 12€ low hiking shoes form Decathlon are pretty good, only after 2 years of beating them up from day to day walking and hiking on rough ground the bottom of the soles have finally cracked.

Luv' me cheap gear, simple as.

Consider carrying a fleece to wear in bed with your hiking clothes

You can put your legs in your backpack for a lot of warmth and drape spare gear on top too.

Yeah, was thinking of taking one heavy jumper and using it as impromptu cover. It barely ever rains during this time of the year and the weather around those parts is hottest for the year. I like being slightly cold when sleeping, so I reckon that even in the worst case scenario not having so much bulk in volume outweighs maybe 3 out 30 nights sleeping uncomfortably cold.

There you go, end game dayhiking and short trips battery bank with replaceable batteries so it will last longer than anything else. You can get one and batteries for under $20 easily and you can probably find all this stuff locally at a vape or smoke shop.

Supercat tl;dr is it boils fast and its not fuel efficient. It holds basically enough fuel to boil in non winter temps and not much more without a refill. Acts as its own pot holder but I like to bury it like a quarter and get things flat because its not the most stable.
You can make a simmering supercat but I only made the rapid boil and medium ones.
My favorite part about it is that it sleeves perfectly over my advil bottle mug and takes up 0 space.
Tealight's just a backup if I step on the supercat or if I want to simmer. "just because it weighs nothing and free" I guess. It will leak if you don't take like 3-5 tealights and jam them into each other.
Hemp wick's just some kindling if its wet out and I need a fire, there's a ton of things you can substitute, someone just gave me a giant ball of it for some reason. I forgot to say I have like half my fire kit in the cook kit (I don't like keeping it in 1 bag because you're fucked if its lost)

It takes a long time to ship (the shipping window is like 2 months to ship to America in my experience, and stuff has just gotten lost in the mail and I would have to wait the 2 months to get a refund), so really I think it is only good for things that get a huge discount and are fairly simple, since recourse is very limited if it is damaged or breaks or something. Honestly for most things, the convenience and service of Decathlon makes it worth.

I'm always recommending Coleman tents to friends and family. They are cheap and reasonably well made with proper quality control, but not light. I don't think anyone i know having problems with one. They sell giant ones, but have small 2 person tents as well.

I've no doubt in my mind everyone has always tried shaving off weight off their packs, but I don't think that equates to the autism that is looking to shave off 300g from the total weight by buying extremely expensive cutlery, camping ware, etc. that have diminishing returns. Dunno if you ever tried, but those butane cans are usually really cheap at hardware stores (welding/brazing section).
Still, shit is getting slowly more expensive and right now my local hardware store has those for 1 euro cent less than Decathlon, it used to be some 40 euro cents of difference.
So, yeah, the price at Decathlon isn't bad. Their threaded canisters are also pretty cheap compared to other brands.

They will last about as much as any other can with the same weight of butane.
But expect about a couple of hours of burn time out of them (of course depends on the conditions, e.g. what stove you're using, wind, stove on full blast vs low, etc.)

I think the main difference is boiling point and pressure, propane can be used in lower temperatures.
I never used those long canisters, but i would say if you don't mind the weight/bulk, they work as intended. Runtime depends on your stove. You can buy ready to use spider stoves, or adapters for the other canister kind spider stoves.

I have that exact one, came in too late for last winter so haven't used it with my stove yet but been using it for car camping trips. 99% of Amazon is marked up Aliexpress gear, and less of it, with a time delay so some of its older designs. This might come as a shock to you but the brands on Aliexpress selling stuff like cook pots are legitimate brands that are semi-western facing and do have quality standards. Your concern trolling about a bunch of stamped titanium pots that all get made by the exact same factory. Most of the major brand pots are from the same stampings. That isn't hyperbole, go on alibaba and message the company that makes them. There isn't some scary concern to be had with the quality of titanium; almost all the Ti in the world is smelted at the Chink state run smelters, there are not big quality differences in titanium products from different sources as there would be with say steel.
If its not made in Russia or Japan then its 100% guaranteed to be using Chinese titanium from the same smelter Toaks, Lixada, and everything else comes from. Most likely almost every titanium product you own right now came from the same smelters.

the thing is you're not even wrong in a general sense, it just depends on what kind of products. i wouldn't trust chinks with steel, but steel just isn't a commonly used backpacking material.
you are right in some cases with materials i do see in outdoor gear, but not in ways that matter much. chink dyneema and xpac doesn't perform quite as well as the textiles western brands source based on testing i have seen. but the margin isn't huge the chink stuff is still good.
in the case of something like a stamped titanium bowl, the point i'm trying to get across is: despite chinks being greedy lying pieces of shit there is almost nothing that you possibly could fuck up in this process. its one of the easiest things to make.
outdoor gear isn't bad from chinks IF you aren't brain dead and can look over product photos. the quality is actually consistently really good from chink brands these days. chink /out/fags are starting to care more about their gear (parts of asia are even starting to have cottage brands develop -- but you won't find those in english or on ali) and a lot of these brands sales are to the west. the main issue chink gear has is design flaws from simply not being as well thought out or tested as western designs (when not outright cloned) which should be visible usually from product photos or review photos if you take the time to look for it.
few years ago chink outdoor gear was all bad but its rapidly improving and the better companies are not that far off from the west anymore.

It's shit, I ordered a very similar one once and just laying in it for 10 mins already made feel damp and clammy they provide almost 0 breathability, if you want a small tent go with lanshan 1 it's more expensive but the separation of bug net and outer layer makes it breathable and have way less condensation issues.

it doesnt work as a sleep pad doubler like some people think (other pads do work, just add r values together) but one thing i love doing is making my winter sit pad out of it and wrapping a U shape over my head or legs with it when i sleep. that works and feels toasty. also makes a ok wind screen (if sized around it) and good emergency mirror thingy!

I found a 48L Lidl backpack I had since forever for only 20 euros and I was shocked how lightweight it is, only 700 grams lol

It has no extra features it's essentially a big bag with top pocket but it's comfy and for ultralight stuff and just insane value. Also it seems like sometimes it was on sale for 10 euros, this is insane since the only difference between this and expensive ultralight dyneema pack is water resistance that you can fix by using the included rain cover. The materials are decent nothing special but for ultralight more than enough.

I recently brought a magnet from Decathlon and it comes with a whistle, thermometer and magnifying glass, so maybe that's what you might consider.

I bought the decathlon mh500 40l, and for me it's literally perfectly designed, the waist pads sit right on my hips, so far it's been durable, I concede it not the lightest backpack, but I bought it for 60 usd worth of currency

I have been using that specific bag for what is now 2 1/2 years and it has been holding up great. I've loaded it to brim, with more than 20kg sometimes, and it has still held up. It's a great bag. Decathlon has good warranty, so if you need to get it fixed or it breaks you will get a refund or a replacement. Comfort wise it feels good on the back and has a lot of adjustment possibly with shitloads of straps. There's also a detachable top, so if you want to reduce how many liters it holds or use it as a smaller bag, you can do that too. It opens like a suitcase too, so you can access everything easy + there's loads of outer pockets for misc stuff. I wish it came with more loops for attaching stuff, but you can DIY that shit easily.
