>>2425926>not flexible if the leather is thick enoughIt would have to be like 3” thick to actually support your ankle like a ski boot
>provides padding if your ankle was to roll so it doesnt collide with a fucking rock.Lol at least you admit they don’t stop you from rolling your ankle, but the padding for when you fall bit is new to me.
What other padding do you wear when you hike?
Do you wear elbow and knee pads too incase you fall?
Maybe a hockey girdle for butt protection?
>It 100% does limit your range of motion in your ankleHiking/combat boots are stiff enough to limit your natural range of motion ie how much you can move your foot around on your own, but that’s a negative not a positive.
They simply aren’t stiff enough to prevent you from rolling your ankle like some think they do, and you yourself admitted that already, so the point is moot.
>used by most of the worlds army's for a reasonThat’s basically just due to legacy reasons.
Give it another 10-15 years and you will start to see shoes becoming standard issue the way hiking shoes are more and more replacing boots.
Sorry, but light weight hiking shoes & gaiters are simply better then 99% of scenarios outside of crampon/winter mountaineering.
