I want to get on the water this summer. I'm debating on trying an inflatable paddle board since I could take it on the ocean and rivers and have the flexibility of sitting or standing. Might consider an inflatable kayak or a foldable one like an oru.

What are your thoughts? Is this a meme? What models would you recommend?

They're really nice. Red Paddle Co and NRS are the big money recs, but there's nothing at all wrong with the cheap ones on Amazon.

I got a couple cheap inflatable paddle boards and an electric pump off Amazon last year, have used them maybe 20 times so far and they’re holding up great. I take them out on rivers and the ocean, no complaints so far. I did get new paddles though, the provided ones twisted and wiggled a bit, the new ones have a groove so the connected poles have no ability to twist, they were $30 each.

Depends on the water you're going in, but I have zero interest in paddleboarding over kayaking. It's more difficult to travel a long distance on a paddleboard than kayak and you can carry more in a kayak.

Don't know shit about inflatable or foldable kayaks, I just put mine on my roof rack.

take the canoe pill. Its actually easier to carry than a kayak and you can take it down rivers, portage around whitewater and waterfalls, take it on the ocean. You can also load up a ton of gear for a week+ or just throw in a BBQ and a cooler full of beer and some friends for a good time by the lake. You can even add a wheel cart system and turn your canoe into a bike trailer if you want to take it down some backroads. Paddleboarding and kayaking is just some recent fad, Men have been traversing the planet with canoes since the dawn of time.

It's not a question of displacement, it's a question of shit falling off your deck.

Also hydrodynamic drag doesn't mean shit if you're standing and balancing the entire time versus sitting. You're the psuedo scientific midwit who doesn't go outside, or else you'd see every paddleboarder giving up and sitting down after 10 minutes.

I just took the paddle board pill. Do your research and get something used. I would recommend a rigid (non-inflatable) paddle board of 11-14 feet long and 28-30" wide. Then decide what type of nose you want depending on flat water or rougher water. This is all assuming you want to move distances on it. For paddling out and jumping in the water then just get an inflatable.

Inflatable sups are fine but inflatable kayaks suck.

Most fun on water is kiteboarding but that takes time to learn
