Otherwise if you're actually looking for cooking in a survival situation, consider that anything goes. You should get used to the idea of eating every part of a fish, every part of a rabbit, and most parts of other animals. Too much liver can overdose you, though. Land snails are generally edible as long as you make them fast for a bit. For mushrooms, you should memorize the most common edible ones in your area, and the most deadly ones (there are very few).
For food preservation, drying, smoking, and congealing in rendered fat are your friends. Learn to make jerky and pemmican.
