Yes it is. For the heck of it I broke out my altoids tin survival kit while fishing. Using only floss, a hook and several worms I caught sunfish like crazy. Not the biggest fish, but I caught 10+. Easily enough for a good meal.

Oh, and OP, yes, dental floss can be used as fishing line. I wouldn't rely on it for anything but smaller to medium sized fish. I could see a medium sized fish snapping the floss though in a struggle.

is it because of size constraints perhaps? if i had to choose one of the other i would go with fishing line. many braided offerings will be thinner and more durable than floss.

look at it this way: you can even use fishing line as floss better than you could use floss as a fishing line.

the 40lb line was just some line that i occasionally use for odd jobs around the house like hanging Christmas decorations because its small cheap and doesn't stand out from what ever i'm hanging.

i decided on it for the emergency fishing kit, because it is damn near impossible to break, and i would rather have a big tool for a small job. my normal fishing gear has 15lb test line on it and i have never had a problem with it.
