I have a new 2ds that I was thinking of taking on my next longish camp trip. Obviously I won't be playing it the whole time, but maybe a bit before bed or something. Thoughts?

I bring mine when i go camping by train. Its usually 3-4hr trip and ace atorney or animal crossing makes it fly by. On the other hand its extra 300g i have to lug around the whole trip.
MH is way too intense for inawoods.

usually i prefer reading but occasionally on winter trips i'll bring along my switch or a downloaded movie on the phone. during spring/summer/fall it's not really an issue as there is enough light to stay out of the tent for most of the day but when it gets dark starting at 5pm there's a lot of downtime to fill and only so many camp fires to watch.

There's nothing wrong with that. I used to leave home and go somewhere to a park or pub and pop a bluetooth keyboard and do what I do at home (shitposting on 4chan) only outside. There's value in it. I also have a small BT controller and played SNES games on an emulator on vacation. Right now I fucking hate technology and I only carry my phone with no accessories except a power bank, but if I were less of a pussy I'd leave it all at home. I was actually thinking of getting in the habit of intentionally leaving my phone at home, but knowing my luck the second I'll do that someone in my family will have some kind of emergency.

Thank you, yes, central/eastern europe, its actually a much more enjoyable experience compared to taking the car as i hate backtracking back to it.
You basically find two spots in a national park connected by public transport and hike from one to another.
Over time you spice it up more and more.
My last proper one was 4day winter no phone solo hike with paper map and compass only.
Not having an option to just drive and buy some stuff if you forget/break something or fuckup your layers really enhances the experience

The problem/curse of smartphones is that people assume you have it on you and you will be reachable 24/7 and if you are not reachable then something terrible must have happened. People also rely on the fact that you will be reachable, so my family asks me to do things on a short notice all the time and making myself unavailable would create issues. I hate phones, they should never have happened. Long-distance communication over the internet is OK but the idea that people should be always instantly reachable is a fucking abomination. I can't wait to do more proper /out/ shit so I can actually use that as an excuse to be unreachable. Sorry for the rant.

yeah man. my next big trip will be in november when the new pokemon comes out so I plan to play quite a bit while hiking and backpacking
I always bring my switch on my trips but it eats battery way too fast which is annoying, screen also isn't bright enough during the day outside. I usually just end up reading manga on my phone in my downtime.

It's not like I'm going camping for the purpose of playing a new game. The new game release and my trip just happen to coincide. I'll be in a pretty remote area of the country though so there's a good chance I won't even find a place to buy the game anyway without a very long detour. won't go through a decent sized city until I'm heading back home
