Hey /out/ I graduate with a stem degree in about a year and I plan on taking a year off to go do volunteer work in Africa or South America with either a foreign medical group or some missionaries.
Do any of you have any experience with foreign aid/volunteer work? If so, do you have any suggestions? Below are some questions I have.
>1) Besides being in good physical shape, I imagine one would also need to know a good amount of first aid and how to source food and water in remote locations?
>2)Also knowing orienteering, backpacking, camping, and survival skills are also key no?
>3) where should I go and where shouldn't I go? Right now there are some opportunities with family in Northern Brasil along the Amazon River and down by Manaus. There are also some missionaries over in west Africa that may need some assistance.
I plan on starting things out by helping some missionaries down in Panama for a week and building up from there to a 6 month rotation in a foreign country.

Ya I know, I just want a large spectrum of opinions and suggestions.
