I live on the east coast of Australia and came across picrel in the waterways of a national park.

Looks like fuel / oil slicks, but after speaking to a park ranger its apparently caused by bacteria that feeds on iron.

1. Can anyone identify the bacteria?
2. Is the water safe to filter and drink?

I'm sick of carrying extra water weight because of faggot bacteria.
