It's beautiful, familiar yet exotic in some ways to me but as an Alps dweller our mountains can't be beaten. I really hope to be able to hike there someday however, the PNW intrigues me.

It is beautiful, but it somes at a high cost, that being the sun. Certain parts of the PWN get LITERALLY 60 or less a year of sun.
That is one of the major reasons there is such a high suicide rate.
Might be fun if you don't mind hiking and camping in the rain. Or insane far left psychopaths.

Oh, I'm not happy about it, but there are major portions of WA state that are protected old growth. Also, a major portion of what was obliterated were in places like Texas, South Carolina and upstate NY. The bulk of what remains in the US is in the PNW (Alaska). I'm pretty sure Europe doesn't have any old growth forests.

Very realistic, I grew up in anchorage where it only gets about -10 or so in the winter, with a good amount of snow of course. Anchorage and the suburbs around it are really well developed but not crowded by any means, fairbanks is the only other big city it's about 5 hours north and way worse imo lol. I know the winters in fairbanks can drive a man to madness but anchorage not so much.

For me it's between PNW and south island NZ for me for wet, Prince Regent in Australia or parts of Arizona for dry. I'd maybe thrown in Mongolia, Kamchatka, Patagonia and the Caucasus for honorable mentions though.

The problem with Europe is that there is no wilderness. The Swiss alps are amazing, but the fact that there will always be a chalet within sight makes it a little less appealing imo.

The views are just outstanding. That morning we had very heavy fog, couldn't see far out, captain had to keep blasting the fog horn for a bit. So happy the fogged cleared up. My pictures were taken on a Note 8, after that trip I am now gonna blow some dough on a good camera.

I actually looked at some real high sierra lots in the middle of nowhere. Mineral right, panoramic views, no road in.

The permitting to build was an absolute shitshow, you would even need a permit to use the motor carrier to carry in building supplies.

This is true but also a bit of a LARP. I'm sure the overwhelming majority of people who say that have never been on a multi day trip on the truly unbeaten path of the american wilderness and gone days without seeing another soul. Seeing a handful of other hikers in the day (which is typically how it goes in Switzerland if you're not on a trail listed in tourist brochures) doesn't ruin your experience.
The fact that I can access more world-class trail running, ski touring, and mountaineering spots than I will ever be able to try with just a two hours drive is unbeatable as far as enjoying the ourdoors go.

As a burger who live in the Rockies, I think I'd be okay in Switzerland or western Austria. I'd miss the wide open spaces for sure, but at least the architecture in those countries is pleasant and comfy.
