Practice packing your gear. Try to get it down to at least 2 mins.
Be away of hot cooking and taking a dump
when in risky areas. Anything that slows your reaction time.
Drinking and stealth do not mix. So don't.
You don't always have to be stealthy. This includes clothing style, how overt you sleep and your ability to read the area.
Be aware of all laws and only break them if you cannot find a more sensible choice. Lots of places have hardline property laws like Texas and places with vagrancy laws especially.
Don't tresspass if you aren't confident. The time to do it is when you are sure so you can stay calm enough to react appropriately. Wake, listen, get up, pack, move on. Do not let anyone stop you and retain a means of disguise for places that you suspect someone might bump into you in the night. No one is ready for a masked person in the night. Well maybe now they are. Use that to advantage and don't communicate. Just leave.
You will likely not be found if you simply set up late and wake up and pack early. I generally prefer to select in the day, arrive in the twilight and be gone before first light. It's hard to be caught unless you overstay or use white man fires.
If you are worried about being caught, practice in areas away from home where you wont be known. This will get you used to it and remove any butterflies. It's a noramal feeling but once you realise that you are just sleeping the way it all was before a bunch of globohomos paved over the natural world and are excersising your human right to be somewhere, you will give far less a shit about that and more about how best to get away with it. Focus on the practicals.
I would suggest starting legal to get used to gear then slowly doing small incursions to abandoned areas for urban practice. Take a lot of photos and use them to benchmark your experiences. You will be happy to have a few shots.
Most importantly, just go. Soon.
