Bladder for hydration and canteen for cooking, unless it drops below sub zero temperatures and the water in the tube freezes then I just go with large mouthed canteens like nalgenes

Canteens are more /out/ and typically have a larger capacity because of that. That said, why anyone would ever use a plastic canteen is beyond me. Stainless will not only leech less chemicals into your water, but you can boil water inside of it if you run out.

You can carry less water and boil it on site with a stainless steel canteen. You have to carry your total supply with a plastic one. Water is fucking heavy. Opinion discarded.

i bring a big aluminum pot rigged for hanging when i need to boil my water or boil snow, much more weight efficient and streamlined. much more fuel efficient if i'm using my camp stove and not a fire to boil.

the classic ol picrel diy scoop works better, you can use even shallower water sources with it. and it sleeves over a smartwater bottle.

I just use nalgene bottles. They sell an after market straw that pretty much turns your nalgene into a camel back. Can also hook up a Sawyer mini if you wanted to.

I carry 3liters camelback, a single walled SS one liter full of non water, and an extra bottle that I use for my filter, this is usually for over night trips if it's during the day I carry a 1liter camelback, 1 liter SS bottle or one quart canteen + filter and bag
Also the simple (one liter is all you need nagelene) shit is a reddit bleed over "inside" joke, you can identify immediately a redditor on a hike by that bottle and their filter bottle being specifically smartwater brand, the meme has roots in /out/ too sadly

I seen the smart water ones, I liked the nalgene one more just because its wide mouth for filling with ice. I want to get extra tubing and plumbing and splice two tubes together so it could feed from two separate bottles on either side of the pack, this way is also take weigh off both sides equally.

smartwater's niche is its compatibility with squeeze filters, it works better than squeezing with a bag and has the right threads.
nalgene's is indestructibility and the wide mouth which can't freeze up in the winter. super nice to start day hikes off with a bunch of ice too. if you like doing that, make a insulated cozy for it, its great.

I reuse a VH sauce bottle with a canteen pouch I got from Dollarama. Glass jar, metal lid, fits perfectly in that pouch, lets me bring my own tea. In the summer I also bring a bottle of ice to hug for coolness, I wouldn't drink it because it's in a plastic bottle that's been frozen and thawed many times, but in an emergency...

The bottle is good for squeezing but many companies make comparable ones, lidl has better and cheaper ones for instance

Both for sure.
Wide mouth Nalgenes are good for putting ice into and they're easy to clean if you wanna put electrolyte or sugar or whatever into your bottle.
Water reservoirs are nice because they're usually mounted centrally and don't unbalance as you drink, they're also easier to sip and it's much better to be able to take small sips often instead of stopping to gorge yourself on gulps of water every 30 minutes or whatever.
