Any non-shit tent recommendations?
I need to fit two people, preferably self standing and with a decent "vestibule". Taking it on a bike or on my back so should be decently light as well.

autumn / winter I use a marmot tungston 1p. does the job.

summer setup is a 3x3m alton tarp, sea to summit nano bug net and a ground sheet. doing multi day hikes with a 30L pack is pretty nice... almost makes up for the unbearable heat.

they're pretty based if you don't want to full on tarp. good budget thru hiking quality ones are dan durston xmid (have to wait) or smd lunar. even cheaper than that you have the chinese lanshan tents, of which there's a single and double wall version, and they're pretty decent from what i have seen. all the above except the xmid i think are ripoffs of other known to be good designs with cheaper (heavier) materials but they're still all super light.

its generally not recommended to go down too far without a bag though because its a lot less room for error with change of weather and if you get wet. generally i only camp without a bag spring summer.

Jesus the jews have the ultralighters by the balls. The guy is going on day hikes, he could carry a 15 dollar milsurp canvas sheet and be fine as well as not have it fall apart as soon as someone rips a fart in its general direction. Plus, dayhiking with a bit of weight is good training for overnights where you have to be carrying more.

here's one version of it. you can get it in silpoly or silnylon from various brands (3f ul, flame's creed, naturehike, no brand, etc) most of the listings will be obnoxious colors but there's dark green and brown ones that can be found for sale. not all of them are tarps so be aware.
its not as good as a packa but its really cheap and more dayhiking oriented because its faster to access the pack. be sure to get the belted version, it does an okay job of handling wind but this is where it falls behind the packa. i suggest diy adding a reinforcement to use a trekking pole with it.

I swear by tarptent. Surprise snow, or 89 degree nights and I'm cozy. My model free stands with hiking poles so desert dirt/rock isn't a problem.
Just got a dog with the gf and they're both snuggle bugs so I'm planning to get a pomoly tent. Also eyeing a 1 person LanShan . What other slept on brands do you anons like?

not mandatory, but highly recommended to make the floor that much more waterproof and to extend the tent's lifespan.
the best ground sheet is picrel cut to the shape of your tent floor. water proof, pretty durable + repairable with packing tape, and ultralight.
this exact brand of window insulation kit, the max duty extra strength kind specifically. its 1.5mm and everything else i've seen is .75mm. either is acceptable but i really suggest the 1.5. you can find this exact same material sold as tent ground sheets too but its cheaper as a window kit.
use some of the extra to make a small packable dry place to sit or put your knees too!

There are much better options for a hammock, like the Warbonnet Thunderfly.

The Seek Outside tarp would have to be hung from corner to corner, or off center, as it’s only marginally long enough for a normal sized hammock when hung as a rectangle. An 11’ hammock hung at a 30° angle is ~110” from end to end, leaving only 4” of coverage.

Maybe I decided to bite more than I can chew but as my first setup I got a hammock with a built-in bug net, and a tarp. The hammock has an underblanket attachment for insulation. If it's cold (I mean beginning of fall, I don't plan on going /out/ in the winter yet because it's too complicated) I can use that and a sleeping bag. I don't know if I should already use those two because temperatures are already dropping, but I'll see. Everything should pack small enough to fit into my pack which is a big plus.
Anything I should be aware of?

It took a beating from hail and icy rain and no issue to speak of.
only concern is cleaning out the inside when you(r kids) track dirt and debris inside. Going to need an actual broom and pan to clear it out.
