>>2442665Ironically, I would be more concerned about the tree poisoning the mushroom. Stone fruits (plum, peach, cherry, etc.) all have cyanide (technically cyanogenic glycosides) in the seeds, and will likely have the same compounds in the leaves and wood. I've heard people say they don't recommend eating chicken of the woods that grows on coniferous trees because the mushroom will take up compounds from the tree and can cause gastro-intestinal upset, and I would imagine a mushroom parasitizing a tree with cyanide in it might have a similar effect.
Also, unfortunately, chicken of the woods is a weak parasite/wood decay mushroom, so your tree's days may be numbered. No idea how "lethal" it might be to the tree, just that it's not exactly a sign of good health.
