I don't know how to go as far as programing a route or path, cuz the screen does not show GPS live, but that's what the high dollar Garmin watches are for, or ya know, your smartphone.
I would download the Garmin Connect app or watch those videos and see what features it has. I know, the guys a cyclist but it absolutely pertains to hikers and trail runners too.
Worst case scenario, order a used one off Amazon, use for 3 weeks, and by week 4, decide whether you Keep or Return it for another device to try. I am curious about the Instinct, Epix, Fēnix. They're all more catered to hikers I think.
