Should the bindle make a comeback?

A bindle is a large kerchief or thin blanket filled with items tied to a stick or staff.

It strikes me that while the daypack backpack is ubiquitous, a bindle might make more sense.

Picture this: You want to go on an easy 8 mile hike. 4 miles one way. You want to bring a couple sandwiches, a couple beers, maybe a small pair of binoculars, and a bottle of water. Well, if you use a daypack there's every likelihood your whole back will get sweaty if it's hot out. Wouldn't a bindle make more sense? Not only would your back not get sweaty, you'd have a mini picnic blanket ready to sit on when you got to your destination.
