>>24660I know I'm a bit late in the game, but I had an obsessive researching session about everest one time, and read about that incident.
They were in the middle of a HUGE storm, very close to the summit when she fell off a ledge. In the white out conditions (They could literally see nothing) her husband decided he would go towards her shouts which included things like "Save me" and "Please don't leave me"
He eventually wandered off a cliff (They think) and I never heard about the two people reaching her part.
But as for trying to save someone at 20+ thousand feet off a mountain side? There are places you have to shimmy along cliffs
>>24511 like this, and the terrain is simply impassible trying to carry someone in white-out conditions. You try to help them, chances are you'll only die with him. Sad, but true.
>Interested in everest rescue missions? One guy flew a helicopter to the summit of everest, and then did it again the next day to prove it wasn't luck. In an un-modified helicopter.
They say the reason that they can't mount rescues is because the only helicopters in the area are of the Nepalese Army, which are too weak to try such a feat.
