Foot Care Routines

No.2449478 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Hey all,

I'm in the military and going through a course in the near future that requires a ton of long distance movements with a heavy pack on. I was a Division 1 athlete in college and have been through a variety of courses already that have made me move with a pack on, but this time the duration of the movements, the terrain (+ being wet), and the weight of the pack are considerably elevated.

I've gotten tons of advice from friends on good foot care routines. I currently have been pretty simple with my routine, I only ever wear 1 sock on a foot (darn tough or Fits) and dont use foot powder or vaseline or anything like that.

I've gotten a lot of recommendations saying wear 2 pairs of socks, the first being a toe liner, and some saying to vaseline your feet prior to putting any socks on.

A good friend who completed this said that the best people that know about cutting edge foot care isnt the military, but ultra-marathoners and backcountry hunters. So i'd like to open it up here and ask what people do to keep their feet free of blisters in the backcountry when you're moving long miles for days or week?

What socks? 1 pair or 2? vaseline or something similar on feet? what do you do if you get hot spots or blisters? Thanks!
