>>2452745>if you live in a very arid climate like a desert they're pretty sweet. or as a secondary cook system you bring in the summer and leave at home other seasons. etc.In arid climates, using wood for fuel is often heavily restricted or prohibited due to wildfire concerns and/or the scarcity of woody vegetation. I found that out the hard way years ago.
>>2452747>don't listen to the anons on this board who shill against canisters and say "durrr what are you a pussy i'll just start a campfire">they're teenagers and haven't even been to like 2 or 3 parks in their life to find out how the law works yet.Or maybe they go into the actual deep woods where Ranger Rick won't be around to watch for unauthorized smoke and enforce the gay (but completely necessary, or else tourists would burn everything down, I must admit) fire restrictions.
Probably not, though, since this is /out/. The long and the short of it is that while primitive fires seem cool, most often a good fuel canister stove is much more practical and legal, and more importantly, harder for thieves and Ranger Rick to spot.
That's what I almost never see mentioned on this board: thieves. People will find your camp and take all of your premium REI and MSR shit in a heartbeat if you're in the wrong place not taking proper precautions.
