I fucking love the outdoors,
I'm sick of Melbourne (im Australian) and I wanna have a go at a month long trek through New South Wales (a state in eastern Australia).
Enjoying it would be nice but I want to do it to see if I can.
Few questions,
Is a month long enough?
What extra stuff should I bring?
How many clothes?
Am I going to get myself killed?

This is my pack, recently added a few things too, removed retarded blanket.

A month of just walking? Sounds like a huge challenge.
Bring the obvious, clothes (2 sets 3 underwear 4 socks, you can always replace these as required)
First Aid kit with extra anti inflamitories and painkillers
Some FUCKING comfortable boots
More water than you think you need
Non perishable foods
shelter- sleeping bag etc

Ive got a UV water purifier,
A camel back and another canteen.
Anti inflammatories is a good idea,
I'm getting some anti venom soon too as a lot of deadly snakes live here.
Any other recommendations for first aid kit? I've got the basics, gauze, pain killer's, bandages ect.

Make sure you have good mesh protection when you sleep as the ants, leeches and ticks will come knocking, along with the death cloud of skeeters and flies.

These things taken care of, the temperate coast of NSW is spectacularly beautiful and varied, easily some of the most stunning forest in the world.

Phenergan and asprin for the first aid. Plenty of bandaids too, for blisters. Those boots will be OK and you'll often find yourself scrambling bare stone. I wear approach shoes when out.

I don't know to much about walking or anything. But my recommendations would be;
-Fly sheet/ small tarp
-Small bow with a few arrows
-Hammock
-Decent knife (obvious)
-Magnesium stick
-Bivy bag
...all i can think of now.

I realise not everything in that list is necessary but might help towards keeping me alive not just to survive but to live comfortably out there.

I'm travelling in winter and I'll probably hitchhike some of the way.
Going from Deniliquin to Uki
Anyone recommend the best forests of NSW to me?

OP, your fishing gear will be useless unless you know how to use it. I assume you'll be doing most of your hiking in forested areas, so you'll generally be targeting freshwater species. Depending on where you are exactly you've got a shot at catties, bass, estuary, golden and silver perch, various cod species, various mullet species if close to tidal reaches, introduced species such as carp, redfin and tilapia and of course eels.

Practice with your gear, there is a lot more to fishing than "I'm gonna put a bait out and sit here for a few hours." And if you keep undersize/oversize fish or go outside of your bag limits, I hope you get fucked by the long dick of the law. Especially regarding our freshwater species.

Lighters weigh significantly less than knives and if you're going for a long period of time then you might lose lighters, break them or just run out of gas and carrying a few lighters is better than one and some spare lighter fluid.

You should really lose any of your knives when innawoods, but something like a lighter is easy to misplace.

Torch & Headlight. I use my headlight for general camp work/ walking and torch for high illumination tasks i.e. floodlighting, investigating noises and looking ahead when walking at night (it's good to know the path isn't leading you straight into a fast flowing river gorge)

I do agree that fuel stoves are required for serious hiking, especially for inexperienced hikers/rain/bushfire season. But. I have been hiking and camping for more than a decade in NSW, QLD and ACT and the sites where I have had a fire greatly outnumber those where I was not allowed. That being said I generally go /out/ during the colder months, and save summer for swimming and not hiking.

Join a bushwalking group OP, learn some stuff so you don't die. Try Rovers or Venturers even, though the whole scouting movement has become greatly pussified in Australia of late.
