I have had a few blind dates walk away and even lost a job interview over the summer due to me not having any social media accounts. I wouldn't have it any other way. People share way too much of what should be private online.
The job was for a multi service IT provider who disliked that I did not exist online. The HR rep and hiring manager both were shocked to see someone in their late 20s without any social handles and thought I was lying to hide myself. Nope.exe, I simply don't believe in using social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, or plebbit.
The contracting agency that was representing me followed up a week after the interview with notes that my lack of an online presence was the overall determining factor on passing me over. They recommended that I at least create a basic LinkedIn profile.
