Why do so many knifes have "cancer and reproductive harm" warnings?

Went to local army depot last week and bought myself a knife, so many of the knifes there including mine have this warning from state of California. What material causes this and is it really a risk worth caring about?

California has laws dictating that literally any cancer causing chemical needs to be listed, even when the method by which the chemical causes cancer is 'consuming several times your body weight' or 'chronic exposure in a poorly ventilated environment' As a result literally everything that uses chemical solvents to process things like wood, plastics, leather, metal, etc. Has those stupid warnings. You can literally ignore them since they mean nothing.

It's bureucratic shit, I noticed this too on the ESEE site I think. In order to get cancer from the nickel and chromium in a knife you'd have to powder the entire blade of the knife on a sharpening stone and then snort the whole 200 or so grams of it (depending on how big your knife is) and even then I'm not sure if it would be enough to give you cancer.
If you drink bottled water you're drinking about a credit card's worth of plastic every week

As other anons have said, it's mostly just a "cover your ass" thing. But with that said, grinding dust from sharpening is nasty stuff. The metals have catalytic properties that cause DNA and proteins to react and become damaged. Back in the industrial revolution in England, some of the workers with the shortest life expectancies were grinders and sharpeners. It's good shop practice in general to sharpen or grind metal outside or in a well ventilated area, and if possible to do it wet with oil or water.

Adopting some safety precautions is always good advice but consider that those workers were most likely working with lead and other super dangerous shit, and grinding tons and tons of metal every day.

It's almost like it is intentional, you are so desensitized to it to the point that you ignore it, then comes along a product that literal gives you cancer if you come within 10ft of it...but worry not, they have absolved themselves are all liability since you didn't observe the warning label.

If I wanted to sue them I could make the argument that the warnings are so widespread that an additional warning denoting the additional hazard of the material was required, as the california warning was insufficient to warn of what is, by your description, a radioactive material.
