- tyvek square. the conventional & rugged option. dupont tyvek brand is the best but any clone of it works. dumpster dived tyvek is fine. its thick, durable, waterproof, lasts a long time, isn't too heavy, but a bit crinkly. average lifespan: 5-10 years.
- polycryo square. the ultralight option. sold as "window insulation kits" at hardware stores. most of it is 0.75mm which is too flimsy even for most ultralighters. "duck" brand "max strength heavy duty" window insulation kits are 1.5mm which is actually pretty durable. thin, weighs nothing, durable enough, waterproof, puncture-prone. average lifespan: 2-5 years.
