>>2461707The mathematics and techniques used for weather forecasting are, first of all quite complex, and secondly actually require that you forecast the weather FOR THE ENTIRE WORLD, at a given time. (This is why real time weather forecasting has always been and still remains one of the major duties of supercomputers around the world). The weather for any given area is always more greatly affected by the weather of the areas adjacent to it than any other factor, which necessitates it. So weather forecasts have to take into account the current measured weather conditions all around the world, and then crunch numbers to predict the weather all around the world [X] units of time in the future based upon the way those weather systems are likely to interact, decay, and strengthen. Then they have to repeat that prediction [X] units of time past that based on the previous prediction of the worldwide state of weather. Weather is also an inherently chaotic system, that is to say that if you have X, Y, Z humidity, Temperature, and pressure that might create a thunderstorm…but then if you have X+1, Y+1, Z+1 humidity, temperature, and pressure, that might produce completely clear skies instead of a thunderstorm+1.
So I suppose to answer your question, meteorologists are okay with putting 10 day forecasts out because they expect people to understand the limitations on forecasting out that far. The real question is why are you paying any attention to them instead of the far more useful 3-4 day and less predictions?
