>>2463653>Would you recommend getting a RYA competent crew cert? I took some ASA classes but honestly the best experience is just getting out there. It made me realize the sailing is the easiest part of cruising. You have to understand and be able to fix everything on your boat. At sea with limited resources and information. Most of being a competent cruiser is knowing about fiberglass, electrical, chafe points on your boat, your engine, etc.
> What were your start and end destinations?Panama to french polynesia
> How long does that take?the actual crossing took a month but prep + chilling in panama and french poly I was out there for 4 months
> Is it a there and back trip or did you have to find your way home? The boat stayed and french poly and so did most of the crew. They are slowly heading to NZ cruising and having a great time. There are not as easy sails back across the pacific, you have to go up north and many people sell their boat or circumnaviate instead. Most people just travel in asia or fly back from tahiti if they arent staying with their boat. But why would you want to leave french poly. I sure wouldn't have if I didn't have a GF and a job.
> Thanks to anyone who can answer I'd love to make this happenJust go do it. People are probably already making plans for their crossings next spring
>>2463472Crewbay is legit. If you don't know anything about sailing you wont get paid though, and even may need to help pay for food and fuel. very cheap way to live a very fun live overall though
