Just found out about trimmer mowers
Can one of these replace a regular lawn mower? On paper it looks like it's all upsides
>up to 22" cut diameter from what ive found
>cheaper than a comparable sized mower
>uses wire that is much easier to replace than a blade is to maintain
>both have self propelled varieties
>both have electric and gas varieties

/diy/ may have better information but imo wires are too weak for heavy use. If you might be running over anything thicker than grass, suck as small twigs that might be on your lawn, a mower is better.

It is impossible to improve on the simple non self propelled push mower. Thing attached to engine crankshaft is beauty in its simplest form.

The string ones its hard to cut evenly. Theyre a lot slower in heavy or wet grass. You may disagree, but blade maintenance is nothing compared to replacing string on anything. A good powerful weedwhacker is more useful in my opinion.

I picked one up, fixed it, traded it for a chainsaw.

A trimmer mower is better for when you have larger areas of weeds and grass that aren't a lawn. They work great for when a string trimmer would be too slow and handle rough ground better than a mower. They aren't good for lawns because their float on the rotating hub, and you have to use the handle to regulate the height. They're also not going to give you as even or clean of a cut as a lawn mower. If you have a manicured lawn, go with the mower. If you have a big patch of weeds, the string mower might be better.

Ones for mowing and maintaining lawns, the other is for ditches and fields that growth well beyond what a lawn mower could handle. The trimmer wouldn't be good for maintaining a regular lawn with normal grass.
