Is it hard to get a permit to hike Angel's Landing?
I'm gonna be there in like 2 weeks and I'd love to do it.
Also, any advice is welcome.

It is just a big trail sitting out there, not like they have a gate on it or whatever. You just need dirs to the trail head and you just go on it. If you go to it, you are permitted.

Is it for the whole trail or just the chain section? Because a ranger told me just go up the other side if I wanted to avoid the clusterfuck of the chain section because they're basically the same view. We did that and there are a lot of places to fuck around and you can keep hiking. So if it's only for the chain section, it's not that big of a deal

I'd swap angel's landing for the subway. The other perk to the subway is that you're nowhere near the packed part of the park.

Visited in June. Five of us entered the lottery (you have to enter the day before you plan on doing the hike) and only one got a permit which allows you to take up to five ppl. They do have rangers checking for permits right before entering the first chained portion. Many were being turned down because they weren't aware of the permit requirement which started this year. Best of luck.

Zion is as crowded as Disneyland. If they didn't force people get permits, some of the popular areas would be packed with too many tourists to even snap a good picture.

Believe me, I hate it too. I've wanted to visit Zion for years, but have never gone because I want to see Zion, not crowds.

If anyone local knows of some comparable natural areas outside the park, on BLM land, whatever, that aren't stuffed full of people, hook me up. Just tell me the general GPS coordinates or maybe even the name of a nearby 24k topo, and I'll do the rest.

There are plenty of things to do and see in Zion that are not crowded. Just stay away from the popular things.

I recommend Mountain of the Sun. I did this in September one year and did not encounter anyone else.

You guys are alright so I’ll give you le epic life hack. Backcountry permits include a permit to angels landing. Go camping for a night and you don’t have deal with the lottery. Me and my big booty red head gf did this a few months ago.

Just did narrows yesterday. Started at 1pm and there was a crowd for about a half mile but then it thins out. By 5pm walking back it was empty enough to fully enjoy it.

As far as angels fuck the lotto. I went up on Sunday and I guess they post rangers at the chains that will check for permits. Thing is they fuck off at 4 so me and the gf were able to climb right up and there was no crowd.

People are just astonishingly stupid, both the ones who show up at peak time in great weather and expect an empty attraction and the ones who complain about the crowd.

This Google pic was basically the scene at Clingman’s Dome when I emerged from the trail yesterday (you can hop onto the path that leads to it from the AT if you’re going to the parking lot). It’s one of the biggest attractions in one of the most busy National Parks (14.1 million visitors per year, compared to Zion’s 5 million). It really do he like that.

I went on a weekday in the off-season and it was still mobbed with people. And the Alum Cave & Mount Leconte trail was overflowing with cars all the way down the street (I didn't even bother with that since there were so many cars). Again during the low season in the middle of the week. You just got lucky.

That's why. Normies usually start arriving between 9-10. Popular areas turn into shitshows between 10 and dinner hour. I usually go to lesser known places in the middle of the day and do the popular stuff before 9-10 and after 4-5. Obviously this isn't possible for all-day or multi-day hikes. For those occasions I start hiking before sunrise to beat the crowds. The only people I'll see then are the ultra marathon running Stravasshole types.

Did not know they need permit but I went in 2020 and it was really bad. The view was great and the climb up was cool but getting down was a nerve wreck because there was so many damn people trying to get up while others try getting down so you just be stuck there yelling at the people below to stop fucking coming up.
