>>2468712Don't trim your nails too short. I did as a teenager, didn't know any different, and now I have two ingrown toenails that I treat myself by trimming down the sides of the nails every month or so. This is known as "bathroom surgery," but I've been doing it for years and the nails still look almost entirely normal, so I must be uncommonly good at it.
Keep your feet as dry and as ventilated as possible at all times. Only use waterproof footwear when absolutely necessary. Take off your shoes/boots whenever you can, as soon as you can. For example, don't wear shoes around your home all day.
As you age, use a pumice stone to keep calluses (particularly on your heels) under control. We no longer roam the Serengeti barefoot in tribal bands, and don't need faux hooves to protect the soles of our feet.
If your toenails are thick on top, file them down, using an electric rotary file (intended for pedi/mani) if necessary.
Apply tea tree oil to nails to prevent and combat fungus.
That's about it really. To recap:
>don't trim nails too short>keep feet dry and ventilated>pumice off excess callus>keep nails filed down>use tea tree oil on nails for fungusEverything else is a waste of money/scam.
