Besides getting wet how bad is cotton really, Bought myself a nice flannel shirt which I intend to wear over a merino baselayer, and under a fleece.
Why is it so hard to find a polyester or polycotton shirt even from outdoor shops?

I wear jeans and cotton shirts a lot of times I'm hiking. It's good because it doesn't stick to your skin if you catch on fire, which is why we wear jeans and cotton shirts under nomex on the fire line. It just sucks when it's wet.

Big fan of natural fibers for this reason too. Sweat also reeks less.

I used to wear merino baselayers from head to toe under my fatigues, to be comfy and to reduce burn damage. It does wear out quick though, and its too expensive to keep replacing now that I don't worry much about getting molotov'd anymore.

Cotton is great until you start sweating. Then it's slow to dry and it gets cold. If your going to wear cotton in the woods, Flannel is by far the least-bad choice.

Fixed that for any hot-climate-gang reading this. Humid-north-gang should probably avoid cotton though.

We used to have nomex over pants. You'd wear a long sleeve t shirt underneath and jeans.

There was this one time that sucked cock. We went jumping off a waterfall in our hand, t shirts, boots, and jeans, not really expecting a fire. Then we got one and were on a 24. By the end of the night we're still soaked from cutting line for 18 hours, and the waterfall. They told us to call it a night and head back to camp in the morning, so we hopped in the burn to lay it out for a bit. We lit a bunch of fires around us and slept in a fucking dog pile because we got so cold.
