Location matters for temperature generally and water specifically. If you’re in a hot climate, some suggestions straight up won’t work. Chocolate can easily melt in a backpack. Others aren’t nearly as good as people say, like extra sharp cheese, which gets funky after just a few days. And things like soup aren’t very enjoyable when it’s 80°.
If water is more scarce it might not be the best idea to plan on having soup for dinner, then coffee afterward, another cup in the morning, and a breakfast that needs 16oz. That falls on your planning, and what you’re comfortable carrying. Camping next to water isn’t always the best option, and water is heavy, but again that’s your decision.
>snacks?I plan my snack times like an autist. Start hiking around 8, snack at 10, lunch at noon, another snack at 2, dinner when I reach camp. Rarely do I crave a third snack.
I lean more toward sweet rather than salty, and bring a lot of junk food. It’s also important to bring stuff that won’t be destroyed or smooshed in your pack (unless you don’t mind crumbs).
