wouldn't know. I never actually talked to an Icelander or any other hikers. I just got off the plane in autumn and went straight for the hills for 3 weeks. You won't have any reddit moments if you avoid the NPCs.

Transportation cost is about the same, food might be 50-70% more expensive. That's all. From an /out/er perspective those countries are very cheap compared to central Europe because there camping is illegal and you have to pay every day. Not so in the norf.

Dunno about that. When I went to Norway, a lot of stuff was 2-3x the price as in bongland. Compare that to like Poland or something and it's gonna make a big difference.
Alcohol is outrageously expensive too.

I'm Scottish, don't come here expecting some great /out/ adventure. It's not the same anymore after COVID. Anywhere with nice wilderness is fucking mobbed with retards and English tourists wandering up hills in crocs and no food or water and falling off cliffs. You wouldn't see a single tourist if you did your exploring in late autumn to early spring but if you do that then good luck staying dry and warm if you don't know what you're up to. In terms of cost then yeah it ain't too expensive.

But also the obligatory, fuck off we're full.

There are plenty of places that no tourists go to all year round. Just avoid skye, ben nevis, glencoe, NC500, WHW, etc. The closest thing tourists do to camping is campervans/roof tents.

Yeah, that's my problem unfortunately because I live directly on the route. It's fucking horrendous. Just random caravans all over the place on dangerous roads parked there. There's nothing more fun than acting like a fucking retard though and driving around country roads late at night and honking the horn at any caravans parked in fucked up places to wake them up. It used to be a really beautiful road trip with loads of nice hill climbs and scenic places along the route but now it's just another tourism route. It's a struggle when there's a lot of single track roads so I feel sorry for the people living even further out west than me because they just don't have the space out there to deal with the hordes of people.
