>>2479307If you've read the book which went into more details about his life and similiar outdoors misfits, McCandless didn't live a very healthy lifestyle from a dietary perspective. There were points where all he lived on was white rice for months on end, which means that his body fat content would have been relatively low to start with the Alaska trip. Bodyfat is the failsafe we have, in order to prevent starvation during lean periods, which is why we've evolved the adaptation to gain weight easily. That said going into a situation with 2% bodyfat means that starvation can happen in a matter of weeks if there is a shortage of food.
He also fell into the ancient problem of primitive man, hunter gathering. Being centralised to that area, he would have eliminated most of the wild game over a period of time, leading to game shortages/wild food shortages. As well as his vandalism of the cabins that had emergency food supplies/tism of not wanting to ruin his real life real serial wilderness experience, led to him starving to death.
Also he didn't know shit about preservation, which is why the moose rotted, the man was under equipped both in skills, knowledge, and tools to survive for a long period in the wild.
