Project Pando request for help

No.2479347 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Hi there! I know it's a lot to ask. But if anyone is in Utah and surrounding areas, me and the other locals could use your help. I want to help one of the most glorious things we have in the US. Pando. Pando is one of if not the oldest living things on Earth, and tragically it is dying. But this can be prevented!

The reasons for the forest being damaged are varied, but fortunately a decent amount of work can be done to fix this. One of the largest culprits is Mule Deer. I propose that anyone who is able to visit Utah and acquire deer tags through the DNR get them. The area is legal to hunt in, and removing as many deer as possible from the area could help the forest saplings expand past the current boundaries of the forest. Other ideas of mine are gentle application of fertilizers on the boundaries of the forest. Noise machines to deter cattle. And if legal permission can be granted, permanent fencing to gate off elk, deer, and cattle from the area.

Here's a map of the area from BLM showing property management in the area. Pando is at T 26 S, R 1 E. Next to Fish Lake.

If you do help. Be respectful to the environment. NO FUCKING POACHING. Clean up your messes. Be courteous to the locals. And most of all have fun and make some deer jerky with whatever you bag in the area. Currently the season is just about to end, which is why I figured I'd post this now so that people have about a year to prepare for the trip. Remember, Pando is in Sevier County, so you will need Sevier County tags.

Here's where tags can be legally purchased from the state when you are ready to purchase next summer. https://wildlifelicense.utah.gov/hflo/main/serv1/index.html?server=serv1
