How easy is hunting?

I don't mean commercialized, geared out sport hunting. I mean just going into the wilderness with a sharpened stick and finding something to pike and kill to eat. What are some tips for 'nomadic' hunting? How easy it to find deer and what are some tips for finding deer?

I would be insanely impressed if you managed to walk up to a deer and stab it with a stick, and even more impressed if you managed to deal lethal damage with just a sharpened stick. I've never been within spearing range of a deer, even ones that I feed on my property.

I mean, you could throw it. That's a key feature of the spear. You could also station in a tree top and wait for a animal, any animal from a squirrel to marmot or bird to just stumble underneath you and you land on top of it or drop point your spear onto it. You probably wouldn't walk up to a deer and stick it with your spear.

There's a dude in Texas that does this for hogs. He baits the area at the foot of a tree then climbs up and he just waits to throw a spear from above. He doesn't post anything but successful kills so I can't say if it's effective in terms of failures vs successes but it is lethal as fuck.

Deer are infamously wary though, I doubt it would work as well without a lot of pre-baiting to get them used to it.

If you go to the local park that has animals I'm pretty sure there will be some deer around, they would probably be in an enclosed pen so just climb the fence and bring some food. They'd probably even eat it straight from your hand. When you've earned their trust go for the stab if the local police haven't shown up by then and pulled their guns on you. God speed brother

So retardedly difficult that it's not worth considering unless you only want to eat half domesticated park squirrels. It's so rare that it's not even illegal in most places. When that one autist speared a bear in Alberta a few years back they only thought to ban it then.
We do not live in the same world that your forebears did, sorry. Animal numbers are less, the beasts smarter, the wilderness so significantly smaller and all of modern man's life regulated.

You're right though, in terms of hunting and how far humanity has come when it comes to advancements in hunting. Spear hunting is pretty archaic, even bow hunting is a weekend warrior stretch. But hey, it worked for cavemen, why couldn't it work for anon?

I don’t think people realise just how far messengers could run. Human endurance can be absolutely incredible, but it requires an active lifestyle from near birth. Four miles of travel a day for starters, to help grow thicker bones. And no, bone thickness isn’t something you can train as an adult.

Is it a realistic to take multiple hogs from one sounder if the hunter shoots kneeling position, with both eyes open and good target acquisition? I may have false impressions from viewing the helicopter meme hunts.

I'm considering building a Cali compliant AR-10 to travel there for a hunting trip, but not if this fantasy has no basis in reality.

If you're fast. And if the ground is open. If there's a lot of cover nearby and they can bolt you'll probably only get one. But good open ground and a semi auto and yeah, multiple isn't unreasonable.

Hunting is not easy in any capacity, unless you're shooting farm deer in a pen like some loser. There are just varying degrees of difficulty. Hunting with a spear in the wild is 10/10 difficulty. You will almost certainly fail. Although you might also have a good time trying, so I wouldn't discourage it.

If you are going full paleo hunter that's real fucking difficult, it was likely even challenging for them and they had the lifetime of training and strength building that came along with it being a necessity of life.
Hard mode while still being in the realm of practicality would be bow hunting, black powder, or even just going minimally kitted out with just an iron sights surplus bolt rifle and your wits
