having said that professional deer stalkers/game keepers here in Scotland will often take headshots when conducting hind culls. When you're shooting dozens of deer in quick succession on the open hill it makes a significant difference to the price you get for the venison at the game dealer.
It also means the deer drop where they are standing, unlike when shooting at vitals when you occasionally get runners.
Not only do the runners spook the other deer in the herd but collecting these runners adds extra time and effort.
