Virginia doesn't stand out in any area (like most states), but it does have a lot of mountain creeks and streams for trout fishing, natural rivers (New River, Holston) and man-made lakes (Claytor, Moomaw, Smith Mountain) for bass and etc. fishing, reasonable hunting laws and access, National Parks with a good amount of isolated backcountry (GSM, Shenandoah), portions of the AT, the Virginia Creeper Trail, and much more.
The coast, NC, WV, NY state, and/or Tennessee aren't far, depending on where you are. NC coast > VA coast in all things.
