>>2482812OP here. I've done both HelpX and Workaway. Most hosts suck if I am honest with you. Maybe WWOOF is different, but I don't know. To begin with, it's usually 20 or 25 hours per week, which is a lot if you consider that most locations, unless they're in a major city like Paris, are really not worth the equivalent hours in local minimum wage and grocery costs. Hosts sometimes feel a little entitled, like they're doing you a favour. But my best host was a bro barely four years older than me (maybe less), had done HelpX himself as a volunteer and I had a complete blast even if the work was pretty hard (not always) and probably not worth it. But they toured me and my ex around Friuli, took me out for good food, and made sure to keep things interesting.
