Does anyone know why a pond might be drained of water? The red line was where it was at before. I've lived here for years by this pond and the water level has been much higher at points and wasn't drained.

happened in my town a while back. they built a quarry, water rushed into the quarry, quarry was dewatered, but that water didn't sink back into the ground and just ran to the river where it fucked off to lake erie or something. the result was the the water table dropped, every pond in a 300 km circle dropped by like 2 feet, some wells dried up.

A pond can be artificially made and still support tons of wildlife and spontaneous aquatic flora.

And it's pumping the water into the normal overflow- which implies that the water is being routed to another pond or water feature, which is probably more important than this pond or actually why this pond exists at all (to feed the other water feature).
