Tried these Merrell trail glove 6s the other day at a shop, freaking incredible. I have higher up arches that never get enough support and this one felt perfect.

I've never really wanted to try a barefoot shoe, but this is kinda changing my mind. Reading some reviews online it seems that a lot of people don't like them because of the high arches and some of them are having chunks break off the soles.

Anyone have these? How are they holding up? Any other good shoes with high arch support?

Yes that's why if you look at the reviews a lot of people who bought the previous versions don't like them or even consider them 'barefoot'.

Ive done some barefoot hikes before, walking slow. Maybe it's because I have poor muscles but it always feels like my foot is 'going flat'. Usually I help remedy this by taking a break on a rock or root and pushing it into my foot like pic related.

Idk when I put them on they just felt perfect. I've never kickboxed before, but the felt like a good kick boxing shoe. Like it's MMA gloves for your feet where you have some padding but you have a lot of dexterity and you feel like you can hurt people with them. Like I could do parkour and ninja stuff and karate kick someone at the same time. It didn't feel like a chunk of foam it felt likesome kind of flexible alien armor fused to my feet.

The newer iterations of the trail glove have been a step or two above true 'barefoot' shoes in terms of support and rigidity.

I really like minimalist footwear when it comes to running/hiking on packed dirt. They're absolutely abysmal when it comes to trails with lots of rocks, gravel, or knobby roots that stick out from the ground just far enough to break your toes should you collide with them. This mostly applies to shoes like vibram five fingers and xero shoes, though. Trail gloves should have enough structure to protect you against common trail hazards.

The reason many people with flat feet nowadays love using barefoot shoes (instead of falling for the deboonked arch support meme) is because the soles are super thin and flat and thus emulate being barefoot, which gives your feet sensory data from the ground that you dont get in thick soled shoes; this sensory input helps you to start finally using your complex foot musculature that's been asleep forever due to a lifetime of wearing footwear that blocks all sensory data from the ground. You can't heel strike like a retard in barefoot shoes, it hurts. It forces you to adapt to proper healthy gait. Thick soled shoes enable you to use your feet like some dead platforms, the aole does all shock absorption for you and your foot muscles dont have to do anything, and as your body naturally minimizes energy expenditure, your foot muscles become very weak compared to those of your ancestors.

As a result of developing your atrophied muscles from walking in barefootwear or barefoot, your arch is very much naturally restored.

As much as this reads to some as hippie new-age junk, it worked exactly as advertised for me. Took a year or more of building up to it but eliminated knee pain that I had for year. Knees and ankles are stronger and I can't remember the last time I rolled an ankle. If I'm on a trail, I don't mind have something like an altra. If I'm way off trail, particularly in a scenario where I can't see where I'm walking or don't have time to having a harder sole is more desirable but as long as its not the ultraflat 5mm shoes its not impossible.

placing my feet in the right spot becomes second nature, so terrain like that has never especially bothered me (except when the rocks are small and sharp). the real problem is after a few hours when you're fatigued and more likely to mess up foot placement and injure yourself. and also obviously if you can't see where you're putting your feet (thick underbrush or low light).

the only situation i'm super against barefoot stuff is in places where you might encounters bitey bugs or snakes. the rest can usually be dealt with after adapting.
