>>2486214This is a decent strategy. I had it a few times a little as a kid, then got it real bad in my mid 20's. I had continual outbreas that would pop up on different parts of my body for almost 2 full years, it was brutal. Calamine I found mostly useless in the end, it's a brief respite but never lasts long and doesn't help anything in the end. The method I resor to in the end left a few spots of permanent scaring (pic related) but any rash that popped up would merely sting horribly for half an hour then heal instead of itching constantly for days.
So, if I get a patch of poison ivy rash starting, I get a coarse cloth and make a paste of dish soap and baking soda. Then I grind that into the rash till every bubble bursts and the area is raw. Clean the wound with soap then wrap in bandage. The fortunate thing of all this is that at this point I seem virtually immune to it. There's tons of poison ivy where I hike and I just ignore it. I've had the odd tiny blister patch that looks like poison ivy, but I nuke it with soda and that's that.
