what would be a good emergency phone /out/?
I'm in France and I want:
>good battery life
>reliable
>can be used as a hotspot for my laptop
>IP68 would be awesome
>maybe a flashlight
>GPS would be cool but I'm ready to sacrifice that
Nokia 800 Tough (pic related) is perfect on paper but by all accounts KaiOS seems slow and buggy as fuck
I also found the Crosscall S4 which just seems to be the same shit in a different color
some anons recommended me the CAT B40 which is supposed to have tethering but is it worth anything?
otherwise there is is the Blackview BV4900 and maybe something made by Oukitel but I'm not really sure about the reliability of those...

A cheap disposable dumbphone with removable battery, sim cards in the major different networks and a few spare batteries. Sattelite is obviously better for coverage but I'm guessing for france not that needed, plus it's substantially more expensive

I keep the laptop in my car and it's been pretty
usefull so far
it's not like I want to shitpost on 4chan while innawoods and this would be my first cellphone

What you mean an emergency phone just get a smartphone. This is useless. Just get an entry level smartphone, they are all a little water proof nowadays, with gps and gyroscope and compass. A good brand gives you reliable updates and battery life.
Nowadays emergency means also searching on the web when available, using cool apps that manage your "emergency" situations etc... no reason going for these phones.

No need to get mad anon. What I (and the other anons in this thread) are trying to tell you is that what you want is a smartphone. You are trying to combine the convenience of a smartphone with the backup capabilities of a emergency phone and that's a bad idea. The reason backup phones are so great is that they last a long time on their battery, are rugged and pretty failsafe. In exchange you don't have the conveniences of a smartphone.
Just get both and keep the systems seperate, that's what I do too. I have a small dumbphone with different sims and batteries in a waterproof bag for emergencies and carry my smartphone for any of the conveinences I want. I'd never carry a laptop personally, but you do you.

Honestly the market for dumbphones is extinct. Everything that is a combination of unlocked, good battery life, and cheap is using the obsolete 2g or 3g network.
The ones that are locked to networks will persecute you in civil court for modifying the phone, and thanks to it being a little tracking device you probably won’t get away with it. Needless to say those phones are unusable internationally or outside their coverage.
It’s a complete bullshit monopoly that has silently swept over the world. Unironically your best bet may be an open source phone or some chinesium shit that takes a month to order. But those have dubious quality and “ruggedness” unless if you figure out how to reinforce that yourself.
