How do you go /out/ without a vehicle?

I drive a 2009 Fusion and I think it's on its last legs. This past summer I really pushed it on several trips, driving it down extremely rocky back roads, up steep muddy hills and just generally going to places where normal people would only go with a truck. All of this I did with a canoe hastily strapped to the roof. It needs probably $2-3k in repairs and I can't afford it, nor can I afford another vehicle for at least a year or two.

I live in rural Ontario Canada so good /out/ spots are everywhere but you have to drive very far. On average I drove about 2-4 hours to my trips last summer. I don't really have friends to go /out. with most of the time. I do have friends but they work a lot and are out of town or they don't have vehicles of their own.

So I'm stressing out and upset because I won't be able to go /out/ much, or if I do it will be in super populated places close enough to take a bus or get a ride to. I was thinking of using this time to get super fit and pump up my cardio so I can go on multi day hikes once I do get another car. Anyway sorry for rambling.

For those of you who don't have a car, how do you get to good /out/ spots without one?
