Hello /out/, I need a bit of help.

I need a new pair of boots/shoes for hiking. Previously I've just worn a pair of converse, but after slipping and almost breaking my ankle about 10km away from the nearest person on the weekend, I decided it's time for an upgrade. Problem is, I have no idea what I'm looking for.

I do a lot of moving through rainforest creeks, so they need to have decent grip. I don't think being waterproof is really a big deal, a lot of the time the water will be up to waist height, so it's inevitable that the shows will fill with water eventually. Budget is around $100. Please halp.
