>Less larping, more doing. It's really easy to start theory crafting, buying and researching gear, planning etc. There are people on this board with gear worth more than your car, more hours researching methods than you attended education and better planning than you would have for your own wedding, but who have maybe left their homes twice in the last 4 years. All that larping doesn't get you anywhere. So go /out/. As a fitizen you should be decently fit if you did some cardio especially. Start with dayhikes, if you are bored go to interesting landmarks or combine with a hobby (foraging and plant identification for me). Then stay overnight in summer, where you need less gear. Maybe a tarp setup, a exercise mat you already have and a blanket or some shit, on a day that has no rain and is decently warm. No need to go full into getting 80 pieces of gear. Then expand from there. Get some shelter, get some sleeping system, get some food preparation going.
For dayhikes always carry water. If you have a first aid kit you designed, take it with you on dayhikes first. It's good to have tested it with non serious situations before needing it. Then from dayhikes, to overnight, to a 3 day trip, to a week. Just gradually expand and get gear as you need it. You will quickly realize what makes sense and what doesnt based on where you live, when you decide to go out, what you do, what terrain you are at and how far you want to hike.
>Be a decent human being.Leave no trash behind, do not start forest fires, try to leave little traces, no loud music if others can hear you, basic stuff.
>Do not get sucked into the idea that all decent gear has to be expensive, ESPECIALLY when it comes to knives.>Have funThe most important part. Enjoy nature, take in the sounds and smells of the forest, stop if you found a nice spot. If things suck in the moment (pain, shit weather, something else), try to embrace the type 2 fun, as a fitizen you should be good at that.
