>>249173610 individual US states have lower population density than Finland Norway and Sweden. Subtracting Alaska, the other 9 states have a combined area of 859,756 sq mi (2,226,758 sq km), nearly twice the area of all of Scandinavia. The lower 48 by itself has about 732,000 sq mi (1.896 million sq km) of just USFS, BLM, and NPS land.
The lower 48 by itself in total area is approximately 80% of the total area of *all* of Europe as a defined geographic continent from Iberia to the Ural mountains and the Mediterranean to Scandinavia with less than half its population, when including Alaska this number jumps to 92.1% the size of *all* of Europe with still less than half the population. Canada by itself is same size as the US, slightly larger in total area and slightly smaller in land area and achieves a similar size ratio to Europe by itself with less than 1/10th the population.
Europe is statistically the 2nd most densely populated continent in the world, being just barely beat out by Asia of which 50% of Asia's population is just India and China).
